This upgrades Chatwoot to Rails 7.2.3.1 while retaining the current
Rails 7.0 framework defaults, so the runtime upgrade can be deployed and
observed independently from default-behavior changes.
## What changed
- Upgrade Rails and the compatible dependency set to Rails 7.2.3.1.
- Keep `config.load_defaults 7.0` for a staged, lower-risk rollout.
- Replace the unmaintained Azure Active Storage fork with the maintained
`azure-blob` adapter while preserving the `microsoft` service name.
- Pin Sidekiq 7.3.10 with `connection_pool` 2.x after validating
scheduled-job execution against Redis.
- Update Rails 7.2 compatibility surfaces in Active Record, strong
parameters, migrations, storage, and tests.
- Add read-only production preflight checks, an opt-in Active Storage
smoke script, a deployment runbook, and the full Rails 7.2/8.0/8.1
assessment.
## How to test
1. Sign in and verify the dashboard and conversation UI load normally.
2. Open the agent-management modal and confirm agent data is rendered.
3. Create an API inbox and wait for the asynchronous deletion flow to
complete.
4. Open Super Admin pages, including instance status and account-user
management.
5. Upload and download an attachment using the configured Active Storage
service.
6. Confirm recurring Sidekiq Cron jobs register and execute after
startup.
## Rollout
Follow `docs/rails_upgrades/7_2.md` for pre-deploy checks, deployment
order, smoke tests, monitoring, and rollback. Run `bundle exec rails
runner script/rails_upgrade/preflight.rb` against a
production-equivalent environment before rollout.

## Description
Agent notification emails (new conversation, assignment, mention, new
message, SLA misses) currently carry no indication of why the recipient
received them or how to turn them off. When recipients cannot easily
manage these emails, some mark them as spam, which hurts sender
reputation and overall deliverability.
This adds a short footer line to agent notification emails only:
> You're receiving this email because email notifications are enabled
for your account. **Manage notification preferences**.
The link points the recipient to their dashboard profile notification
settings page (`/app/accounts/:account_id/profile/settings`) so they can
disable notifications instead of marking the email as spam. This is a
navigational link only, not a one-click unsubscribe (a real unsubscribe
flow is a separate future change).
Scoping: the mailer layout (`app/views/layouts/mailer/base.liquid`) is
shared by all mailers via `ApplicationMailer`. To keep the footer on
agent notification emails only,
`AgentNotifications::ConversationNotificationsMailer` exposes a
`notification_settings_url` liquid local (built from the existing
`app_account_url` route helper), and the layout renders the footer line
only when that local is present. Transactional and other emails do not
set it, so they are unaffected. The enterprise SLA notification methods
prepend into the same mailer class, so they inherit the footer
automatically.

When an agent loops a new address into an ongoing email thread and then
adds a private note, the reply currently goes out with no Cc, and with
To falling back to the conversation contact. The newly added person
never receives the mail. This change makes an outgoing email keep the
To/Cc/Bcc that were entered on that reply, no matter what is added to
the conversation afterwards.
Closes#15193
## How to reproduce
1. Open a conversation on an Email inbox.
2. Add a new address to **Cc** and send a reply.
3. Immediately add a private note to the same conversation.
4. Inspect the delivered mail: `Cc` is empty and `To` is the
conversation contact instead of the addresses entered on the reply.
## What changed
`ConversationReplyMailer#cc_bcc_emails` and
`#to_emails_from_content_attributes` read the addresses from
`@conversation.messages.outgoing.last` rather than from the message they
were handed. Replies are delivered asynchronously
(`SendReplyJob.perform_later`, and `wait: 2.seconds` when the message
has attachments), so any outgoing message created in that window
replaces the recipients of a mail that is already queued. A private note
is the easiest way to hit it: private notes are outgoing messages, and
on an Email inbox `Messages::MessageBuilder#process_emails` stores them
with empty `to_emails` / `cc_emails` / `bcc_emails`.
Both lookups now go through the existing `current_message` helper
(`@message || @conversation.messages.outgoing.last`), which the `from`
and `reply_to` builders already use. `email_reply` sets `@message`, so
it resolves the recipients of the message being delivered;
`reply_with_summary` and `reply_without_summary` leave `@message` nil
and keep their current behaviour.
Added a spec covering the private-note case in
`spec/mailers/conversation_reply_mailer_spec.rb`.
## Note
I could not run the Ruby test suite locally — there is no Ruby toolchain
in the environment I worked in, so the new spec has not been executed on
my side. The change and the spec were verified by reading the code paths
(`Message#send_reply`, `Email::SendOnEmailService`,
`Messages::MessageBuilder#process_emails`,
`ConversationReplyMailerHelper#prepare_mail`). Deferring to CI for the
actual run.
## Description
Adds an API-only branded email layout feature for Email inbox replies.
Administrators can configure an account-level fallback layout and
per-email-inbox overrides with Liquid HTML using `{{ content_for_layout
}}`, and eligible outbound email replies/transcripts render through the
scoped layout when the account feature flag `branded_email_templates` is
enabled.
The feature is disabled by default and is manually controlled through
the normal account feature flag mechanism.
Fixes
https://linear.app/chatwoot/issue/CW-7514/branded-html-email-templates-per-inboxbrand
## Type of change
- [x] New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
- [x] This change requires a documentation update
## How to test
1. Start Chatwoot locally and sign in as an administrator.
2. Enable the account feature flag for the account you are testing:
```ruby
account = Account.find(<account_id>)
account.enable_features!(:branded_email_templates)
```
3. Create or pick an Email inbox, then note the `account_id` and
`inbox_id`.
4. Configure an account-level fallback layout through the API using
authenticated admin headers:
```http
PATCH /api/v1/accounts/:account_id/branded_email_layout
Content-Type: application/json
{
"branded_email_layout": "<html><body><header>Account Brand</header>{{
content_for_layout }}<footer>Account footer</footer></body></html>"
}
```
5. Confirm `GET /api/v1/accounts/:account_id/branded_email_layout`
returns the saved account layout.
6. Configure an inbox-level override for the Email inbox:
```http
PATCH /api/v1/accounts/:account_id/inboxes/:inbox_id
Content-Type: application/json
{
"branded_email_layout": "<html><body><header>Inbox Brand</header>{{
content_for_layout }}<footer>Inbox footer</footer></body></html>"
}
```
7. Confirm `GET /api/v1/accounts/:account_id/inboxes/:inbox_id` returns
the inbox `branded_email_layout`.
8. Send an Email inbox reply and verify the outbound email body is
wrapped with the inbox layout around the generated reply content.
9. Clear the inbox layout by sending a blank value, then send another
reply and verify it falls back to the account layout:
```http
PATCH /api/v1/accounts/:account_id/inboxes/:inbox_id
Content-Type: application/json
{
"branded_email_layout": ""
}
```
10. Clear the account layout with a blank value and verify Email replies
return to the existing no-layout behavior.
11. Verify validation behavior:
- Updating either API with a layout that omits `{{ content_for_layout
}}` returns `422`.
- Updating either API with invalid Liquid returns `422`.
- Updating a non-Email inbox with `branded_email_layout` returns `422`.
- Disabling `branded_email_templates` and updating a layout returns
`422`.
## How Has This Been Tested?
Validation:
- `bundle exec rspec spec/models/email_template_spec.rb
spec/controllers/api/v1/accounts/branded_email_layouts_controller_spec.rb
spec/controllers/api/v1/accounts/inboxes_controller_spec.rb
spec/lib/email_templates/db_resolver_service_spec.rb
spec/mailers/conversation_reply_mailer_spec.rb`
- `bundle exec rspec
spec/enterprise/services/enterprise/billing/handle_stripe_event_service_spec.rb
spec/enterprise/services/internal/reconcile_plan_config_service_spec.rb`
- `bundle exec rubocop` on changed Ruby files, excluding generated
`db/schema.rb`
- `git diff --check` and `git diff --cached --check`
- YAML parsing for changed config/Swagger files
- `bundle exec rails routes -g branded_email_layout`

Fetch IMAP message content using `BODY.PEEK[]` instead of `RFC822` to
avoid provider-specific parser failures while preserving unread state.
This also applies the existing SMTP timeout configuration to custom SMTP
email-channel replies, so provider SMTP responses have enough time to
complete.
Fixes: https://github.com/chatwoot/chatwoot/issues/12762
## Why
Some IMAP providers can return responses for `FETCH RFC822` that Ruby
`net-imap` fails to parse with:
`Net::IMAP::ResponseParseError: unexpected RPAR (expected ATOM or NIL)`
We reproduced this with iCloud IMAP. Authentication, `INBOX` selection,
and header fetches worked, but fetching full message content with
`RFC822` failed before Chatwoot received a `Mail::Message`.
The same mailbox successfully returned full message content when fetched
with `BODY.PEEK[]`.
> During end-to-end iCloud validation, inbound fetch worked after the
IMAP change, but outbound replies through the custom SMTP settings could
still fail with a socket read timeout. The OAuth SMTP path already used
explicit SMTP timeout values; the custom SMTP path was relying on mailer
defaults instead.
## What this change does
- Replaces the full message fetch from `RFC822` to `BODY.PEEK[]`
- Reads the returned message content from `BODY[]`, which is how
`net-imap` exposes the response attribute
- Keeps the existing `BODY.PEEK[HEADER]` header-fetch behavior unchanged
- Applies `SMTP_OPEN_TIMEOUT` and `SMTP_READ_TIMEOUT` to custom SMTP
email-channel replies
- Defaults custom SMTP reply delivery to `open_timeout: 15` and
`read_timeout: 30`
- Updates IMAP service specs for standard and Microsoft IMAP fetch flows
- Updates mailer specs for custom SMTP timeout settings
`BODY.PEEK[]` is preferable here because it fetches the full message
content without marking messages as read.
## Validation
- Configured a local email inbox against iCloud IMAP and SMTP
- Confirmed `FETCH RFC822` reproduces `Net::IMAP::ResponseParseError:
unexpected RPAR (expected ATOM or NIL)`
- Confirmed `BODY[]` and `BODY.PEEK[]` fetch the same mailbox
successfully
- Confirmed Chatwoot imports iCloud messages after the IMAP change
- Sent two outbound replies from the Chatwoot UI through iCloud SMTP
after applying the timeout settings
- Confirmed both UI-created outbound messages were marked `sent`, had
iCloud SMTP `source_id` values, and had no `external_error`
- Ran `bundle exec rspec spec/services/imap/fetch_email_service_spec.rb
spec/services/imap/microsoft_fetch_email_service_spec.rb`
- Ran `bundle exec rspec spec/mailers/conversation_reply_mailer_spec.rb`

Email inbox replies now work for Google and Microsoft OAuth inboxes even
when the self-hosted instance does not have global SMTP configured. This
keeps agent replies working for email channels that already have valid
inbox-level delivery settings.
fixes: chatwoot/chatwoot#13118closes: chatwoot/chatwoot#13118
## Why
Self-hosted email inbox replies were blocked by a global SMTP guard in
the `email_reply` path. For OAuth-backed email inboxes, outbound
delivery is configured at the inbox level, so the mailer returned early
and the reply flow failed before sending.
## What this change does
- Allows the `email_reply` path to proceed when the inbox has SMTP
configured
- Allows the `email_reply` path to proceed when the inbox has Google or
Microsoft OAuth delivery configured
- Renames the touched mailer helper predicates to `?` methods for
clarity
## Validation
- Configure a Google email inbox on a self-hosted instance without
global `SMTP_ADDRESS`
- Reply from Chatwoot to an existing email conversation
- Confirm the reply is sent through the inbox OAuth SMTP configuration
- Run `bundle exec rspec
spec/mailers/conversation_reply_mailer_spec.rb:595`

Upgrade rails to 7.2.2 so that we can proceed with the rails 8 upgrade
afterwards
# Changelog
- `.circleci/config.yml` — align CI DB setup with GitHub Actions
(`db:create` + `db:schema:load`) to avoid trigger-dependent prep steps.
- `.rubocop.yml` — add `rubocop-rspec_rails` and disable new cops that
don't match existing spec style.
- `AGENTS.md` — document that specs should run without `.env` (rename
temporarily when present).
- `Gemfile` — upgrade to Rails 7.2, switch Azure storage gem, pin
`commonmarker`, bump `sidekiq-cron`, add `rubocop-rspec_rails`, and
relax some gem pins.
- `Gemfile.lock` — dependency lockfile updates from the Rails 7.2 and
gem changes.
- `app/controllers/api/v1/accounts/integrations/linear_controller.rb` —
stringify params before passing to the Linear service to keep key types
stable.
- `app/controllers/super_admin/instance_statuses_controller.rb` — use
`MigrationContext` API for migration status in Rails 7.2.
- `app/models/installation_config.rb` — add commentary on YAML
serialization and future JSONB migration (no behavior change).
- `app/models/integrations/hook.rb` — ensure hook type is set on create
only and guard against missing app.
- `app/models/user.rb` — update enum syntax for Rails 7.2 deprecation,
serialize OTP backup codes with JSON, and use Ruby `alias`.
- `app/services/crm/leadsquared/setup_service.rb` — stringify hook
settings keys before merge to keep JSON shape consistent.
- `app/services/macros/execution_service.rb` — remove macro-specific
assignee activity workaround; rely on standard assignment handlers.
- `config/application.rb` — load Rails 7.2 defaults.
- `config/storage.yml` — update Azure Active Storage service name to
`AzureBlob`.
- `db/migrate/20230515051424_update_article_image_keys.rb` — use
credentials `secret_key_base` with fallback to legacy secrets.
- `docker/Dockerfile` — add `yaml-dev` and `pkgconf` packages for native
extensions (Ruby 3.4 / psych).
- `lib/seeders/reports/message_creator.rb` — add parentheses for clarity
in range calculation.
- `package.json` — pin Vite version and bump `vite-plugin-ruby`.
- `pnpm-lock.yaml` — lockfile changes from JS dependency updates.
- `spec/builders/v2/report_builder_spec.rb` — disable transactional
fixtures; truncate tables per example via Rails `truncate_tables` so
after_commit callbacks run with clean isolation; keep builder spec
metadata minimal.
- `spec/builders/v2/reports/label_summary_builder_spec.rb` — disable
transactional fixtures + truncate tables via Rails `truncate_tables`;
revert to real `resolved!`/`open!`/`resolved!` flow for multiple
resolution events; align date range to `Time.zone` to avoid offset gaps;
keep builder spec metadata minimal.
- `spec/controllers/api/v1/accounts/macros_controller_spec.rb` — assert
`assignee_id` instead of activity message to avoid transaction-timing
flakes.
- `spec/services/telegram/incoming_message_service_spec.rb` — reference
the contact tied to the created conversation instead of
`Contact.all.first` to avoid order-dependent failures when other specs
leave data behind.
-
`spec/mailers/administrator_notifications/shared/smtp_config_shared.rb`
— use `with_modified_env` instead of stubbing mailer internals.
- `spec/services/account/sign_up_email_validation_service_spec.rb` —
compare error `class.name` for parallel/reload-safe assertions.
Previously, email replies were handled inside workers. There was no
execution logs. This meant if emails silently failed (as reported by a
customer), we had no way to trace where the issue happened, the only
assumption was “no error = mail sent.”
By moving email handling into jobs, we now have proper execution logs
for each attempt. This makes it easier to debug delivery issues and
would have better visibility when investigating customer reports.

As part of PR [#11622](https://github.com/chatwoot/chatwoot/pull/11622),
we intentionally hide CSAT survey URLs from agents in the dashboard to
avoid exposing those links internally. However, email replies being
external communications to contacts should still include the survey
URLs.
We missed handling that specific case for email channels. All other
external channels like WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, etc., were already
working correctly and continue to include the survey URLs as intended.

This pull request enhances the export contacts feature by adding a confirmation step before exporting. Previously, clicking the export button would trigger the export action without confirmation.
Additionally, it ensures that only the intended recipient receives the export email, addressing the previous behaviour where all administrators received it.
